National Drugs Strategy 2009-2016

The National Drugs Strategy (interim) 2009-2016 is implemented through the five pillars of supply reduction, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and research. 63 individual actions are outlined within the pillars in an attempt to achieve the overall strategic aims of:

  • Creating a safer society through the reduction, supply and availability of drugs.
  • Minimise problem drug use throughout society.
  • Provide appropriate and timely treatment and rehabilitation services.
  • Ensure the availability of accurate data on the prevalence of drug use.
  • Put an efficient and effective framework in place for the implementation of the National Substance Misuse Strategy 2009-2016.
