MNYFP

The Mounttown Neighbourhood Youth and Family Project (MNYFP) is a child and family support project that is funded through Tusla as part of its Primary Prevention and Welfare pillar and additionally through the Local Drugs Task Force. The project was incorporated in 1997.

Mounttown NYFP is based in its own premises in a school campus, and supports the social and emotional development of children and young people aged 0-18yrs with their families, in early infancy, pre-school and school age development. Through the LDTF funding   it additionally targets young people who are considered to be at high social risk because of substance misuse in their families. It draws from a wider group of schools in the Dun Laoghaire area, working closely with teachers, other professionals and with local parents and the community. It operates under Actions 24, 29 and 31 in the National Drug Strategy, 2009-16

The project supports the participating young people to draw upon their own strengths and those of their home, school and community so as to encourage their potential within the school system. It utilises attachment theory, music and drama therapy, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and the Marte Meo approach which enhances communication skills and supports children’s development.

The project operates all year around but with more intensive programmes during the school year. Work with parents is an integral part of the programme.
