Alcohol project wins young scientist award

An Alcohol project, by Cork students Ian O’Sullivan and Eimear Murphy won the 51st Young scientist and Technology Exhibition. The project analysed parental and child behavior in relation to alcohol consumption and found a strong effect between parents, particularly fathers’ behaviours and attitudes and children’s.  Not alone is this study important in its own right, but the fact that it was the exhibition’s outright winner should contribute to public discourse about alcohol issues in society and also underscore the potential and importance of social research in the alcohol debate.
