Suicides linked to alcohol

According to an Irish Times report, Ulster University professor, Siobhan O’Neill, in a study of 1,600 suicide cases on the island of Ireland over a six year period, reports that over half are likely to involve alcohol. Similarly, she presented findings linking alcohol to A&E presentations for self-harm. O’Neill reported that alcohol exacerbated other problems that led to suicide and self-harm and can also lead to impulsivity, thereby increasing the risk that people with suicide thoughts will act on them.
